Vox Hunt: Looking Forward
Show us what you're looking forward to in 2008.
I anticipate an upheaval to monotony: the hazy hues of my studies and my hermitage will soon be supplanted by several new shades.
In literal terms, one color I hope for is the forecasted color of the year, Blue Iris.
"As a reflection of the times, Blue Iris brings together the dependable aspect of blue, underscored by a strong, soul-searching purple cast. Emotionally, it is anchoring and meditative with a touch of magic." (Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the graphic arts and industrial group Pantone. Cited by Cathy Horyn, New York Times, Dec. 20, 2007.)
Sounds peachy.
Remember Meryl Streep's tour de force monologue about cerulean, in The Devil Wears Prada? She describes how one shade of blue began with some French designer's whim, caught the fancy of a fashion editor, and from there it swept through the industry and is now a popular shade at discount mass-retail outlets. Nobly, Blue Iris might travel well from fashion into interior and graphic design.
